In a recent conversation with Finland’s Chaoszine, Tanya O’Callaghan revealed that David Coverdale doesn’t intend to end Whitesnake.
The bassist was asked if Whitesnake would resume its farewell tour, which stopped almost two years ago because Coverdale had an ongoing respiratory infection. She replied by saying:
“We’re hoping… We’re hoping to finish the cycle at least, but I can’t really speak fully for David because he’s, as he says himself, never say never. But he’s still recovering a little bit because that was a pretty intense tour run.”
Coverdale Is Doing Good Right Now
Tanya revealed the singer’s current health status:
“And between rehearsals and everything, he had gotten sick and a lot of health stuff unfolded for him. But he’s doing pretty good. He’s really excited about doing the farewell DVD and the book, and all that will be hopefully next year, which is fantastic. And, as he says, never say never.”
Then, the musician mentioned Coverdale’s wish to work on new Whitesnake music:
“Maybe we’ll go out around that, but he wants to write and record some stuff. So Whitesnake is not finished… It’s not over by any means. But I don’t know what iteration it will be that is next. Maybe, hopefully, I hope we finish the tour cycle. I really, really hope we do ’cause it’s a great group of people to work with.”
What Did Joel Hoekstra Say About Coverdale’s Health?
In 2022, while on tour with the Scorpions and Thundermother, Whitesnake had difficulties when Coverdale and guitarist Reb Beach missed shows due to health problems. These issues disrupted the band’s plans and raised questions about Whitesnake’s future. In an earlier chat, guitarist Joel Hoekstra mentioned that Coverdale’s return to the stage seemed distant before everything paused, He shared what he had expected from the rest of the tour:
“Some historic Whitesnake members and things like that join us and make it a big celebration of David’s career and for the fans. So, obviously, and unfortunately, health had other plans, and so we’re kind of in a holding pattern right now, but David’s been floating the possibility of getting back out. So we’ll hopefully do so, and if not, I’ll just be happy to support David and whatever his vision is with whatever he’s got cooking for Whitesnake.”
Last year, Glenn Hughes discussed Coverdale’s potential retirement. He said Coverdale might be on his final tour due to his ongoing sinusitis problems. Hughes expressed his support and best wishes for Coverdale and his former Deep Purple bandmates.
