NBC is adding to its drama lineup with two new series: Suits L.A., a spinoff of the recently revived legal drama Suits, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society, a show where suburban gardening takes a dark turn. Talks of Suits L.A. first surfaced last fall when Beatrice Springborn, President of Universal International Studios, referred to the project as “Suits L.A.” during a speech at Content London. In February, NBC confirmed they had ordered a pilot episode for the spinoff. NBC set up a writer’s room for Grosse Pointe Garden Society in February 2023.
Suits: L.A. will star Arrowverse actor Stephen Amell as Ted Black, “a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.”
The series also stars Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg. Greenberg, who stars as Rick Dodsen, a protégé to Amell’s character, recently told MovieWeb that working on the pilot was an amazing experience. Original series creator Aaron Korsh returns as writer and executive producer for Suits: LA. David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, and Victoria Mahoney executive produce. Mahoney also directed the pilot episode. UCP and Hypnotic produce.
It was only a matter of time before Suits was revived in some way: the original USA series, which aired on the network from 2011 to 2019, found a second life when it landed on Netflix. Whether the “Netflix effect” or the “Meghan Markle effect,” the legal drama found unexpected success on the streamer. The series became the most-streamed show of 2023, with 57.7 billion minutes streamed on Netflix and Peacock (Disney+’s Bluey followed with 43.9 billion minutes).

Murder Blooms in Grosse Pointe Garden Society
News of Grosse Pointe Garden Society has mostly flown under the radar (despite its early 2023 order), but fans of suburban dramas should be excited about this one. This show boasts a captivating premise: four seemingly ordinary garden club members find themselves tangled in a murder mystery. With a talented cast on board, Grosse Pointe Garden Society promises to be a fun watch.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society stars Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb, Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, Nancy Travis, Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, and Felix Avitia. While full cast details have not been revealed, we do know that Robb stars as Alice, an English teacher and long-time member of the Grosse Pointe Garden Society, Fumero portrays Birdie, a rich and designer-loving best-selling author, while Rapaport is Brett, the manager of a local garden store.
We’ll keep an eye on Fumero, who has become a comedic favorite thanks to her role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. While this dramatic turn might seem like a fresh direction, Fumero is going back to her professional roots, as she made her acting debut on the soap opera One Life to Live. Still, seeing her transition from ambitious detective to a video store employee (in Blockbuster) to entitled suburban ex-wife will be interesting to watch.
