Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard sat down with NME for a new interview and talked about the band’s latest album ‘Dark Matter.’
In their chat, he was asked if the band’s 12th studio album was their ‘career high.’ He explained:
“I wouldn’t say that. I think it will end up being an impactful record – looking back at some point this record will be significant.”
He also explained how the record came together:
“Working with [producer] Andrew Watt was effective for us. In a sense, he was going back in time and saying, ‘You did this so well, just do this.’ It makes me think ‘OK, we did that, now what’s the opposite of that? Let’s lean in the other direction.’”
The Best ‘Dark Matter’ Song To Play Live
Pearl Jam is currently touring to promote their album. It appears that some of the songs from the album are more fun to play than others for some reason.
In another recent interview with Kerrang!, the guitarist was asked which songs are going down best live. He revealed:
“Literally, the whole record is fun – and that’s different for me. Normally, we try to play everything off a new record and there are some songs that we haven’t learned to play live – something doesn’t quite feel right. But all of the songs from ‘Dark Matter’ are working. That’s all about the work that we put in writing them and arranging them.”
He named the one particular song that ‘feels great to play’:
“‘Wreckage’ feels great to play.”
