Star Wars: Skeleton Crew gets an official trailer that pulls the curtain on the high-stakes adventure, taking a page out of a classic 1980s film. Starring Jude Law, the Oscar-nominated actor is set to lead a ragtag group of kids lost in the vast galaxy looking for their way back home. The new Star Wars characters encounter droids, space pirates, and much more in the Skeleton Crew, a family-oriented adventure meant to usher in a new era for the long-standing franchise.
The trailer for Skeleton Crew features new footage of Law’s mysterious savior, heavily speculated to be a former Jedi, encountering a group of misbehaving children who accidentally hop on a spaceship and get lost in the galaxy. The group is played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, and Robert Timothy Smith, ranging from human to alien characters. The villains of the show are not made overtly clear, but Jaleel White can be seen as a space pirate among other shady figures. The group’s parents are played by Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon, who seem adamant about finding their children lost in the galaxy.
Among the explosive scenery and action-packed footage is an undeniable resemblance to The Goonies, which the series is explicitly inspired by. Check out the official synopsis and trailer for Skeleton Crew below:

galaxy, and the strange aliens and dangerous places they encounter on their adventure.
Star Wars Gets the Goonies Treatment
Although the trailer does not feature any special appearances by well-known Star Wars characters, Skeleton Crew takes place in a very familiar timeline. The upcoming show takes place during the New Republic, at the same time as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. There remains a possibility that fans could see characters crossover into the Skeleton Crew at some point, even if it seems more like a standalone project thus far. Based on the new footage, there is a clear intent stylistically and story wise to separate Skeleton Crew from other Star Wars shows. Jude Law was asked about the possibility of the series including references to other Star Wars stuff, teasing that the show takes a page out of “old” films:
“It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars, and there are
great references to old films and recent episodes and series
. There’s a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it. If you look carefully, [we] got some Star Wars tech that dates right back, I believe, to the original film. I can’t wait. I mean, even in the first episode, there’s a couple really, really great references that certain fans will immediately recognize.”
