Samara Weaving, who played Grace in the 2019 horror film Ready or Not, is eager to reprise her role in a potential sequel. Talks of a follow-up film coming to fruition picked up steam in April when the film’s directors, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, revealed a script existed. The filmmaking team, known collectively as Radio Silence, called the script “an absolute f*cking banger of a sequel” and shared their enthusiasm for the potential sequel as there is “so much story left to tell.” Of course, that story includes Weaving’s Grace, the film’s final girl, who manages to survive a hellish night at her in-laws, and the actress is “all in” for a sequel.
During a conversation with Comicbook.com, while promoting her new horror film, Azrael, Weaving spoke about returning for Ready or Not 2:
“I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in. I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together.”
While Weaving and Radio Silence are clearly eager to revisit Ready or Not, an official green light has not yet been given. Weaving jokingly commented that she might have “to make some calls” to move the project along. Reports have circulated that Adam Robitel, director of the critically acclaimed The Taking of Deborah Logan, is in talks to helm the sequel. Despite Robitel’s potential involvement (which is not confirmed), Radio Silence’s passion for the project suggests they’ll remain closely involved in some capacity. That’s good news for fans of the original film, as we’d love to see the sequel retain the spirit of the original.
Samara Weaving’s Subtle Nod to Grace
Weaving, Gillett, and Bettinelli-Olpin reunited for 2023’s Scream VI. In her appearance, Weaving wears a yellow turtleneck dress, which, according to the film’s costume designer, Avery Plewes, was a “hybrid nod” to both Rose McGowan’s Tatum’s iconic outfit from the original Scream and Grace’s yellow Converse in Ready or Not.
With a compelling script, an eager leading star, and a fanbase ready for more, Ready or Not 2 seems poised to be a bloody good time. While the official go-ahead remains pending, all signs are suggesting that it’s only a matter of time before we see Weaving back as Grace.
The actress, meanwhile, is continuing to solidify her legacy as a leading scream queen. Her latest horror outing, E.L. Katz’s Azrael, has opened to positive reviews and will land in U.S. theaters on September 27. The film is set “in a world where no one speaks” and centers on a devout female-led community hunting down a young woman, Azrael (Weaving), who has escaped imprisonment. Once captured, she must fight for survival or be sacrificed to an ancient evil in the wilderness. Azrael will later head to Shudder for streaming. Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin last collaborated on Abigail.
