The CW’s upcoming supernatural adventure series, The Librarians: The Next Chapter, has been removed from the network’s fall schedule. It was originally slated to debut on October 24, 2024, in the 9 p.m. slot, following Superman & Lois, but has been replaced by the new docuseries, The Wranglers. This unexpected change in the schedule has left fans wondering about the franchise’s future.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter was set to continue the story of the Librarians franchise as a direct spin-off and sequel to the popular TV movie trilogy and TNT series of the same name. But instead of featuring the same characters, the spin-off is set to center around a fresh batch of librarians as they protect mythical objects. The official plotline of The Librarians: The Next Chapter reads:
“Vikram Chamberlin, a Librarian from the past who time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. He is given a new team to help him clean up the mess he made, forming a new team of Librarians.”

Will The Librarians: The Next Chapter Come Out in 2024?
The Librarians: The Next Chapter was announced to be in development five months ago, with the premiere date revealed two months ago, when the network revealed its overall fall lineup. However, with the news that it will be replaced by The Wranglers, it is unlikely that The Librarians: The Next Chapter will debut in 2024. The Wranglers follows the lives of young staff members at the Circle Bar Dude Ranch in Montana, and it consists of 8 episodes.
Additionally, Superman & Lois, which is airing right before the original time slot of The Librarians: The Next Chapter, has got fans buzzing with excitement by being the conclusive batch of episodes for the DC series. The CW’s President of Entertainment, Brad Schwartz, himself praised the series for its emotive storyline and well-written episodes by saying,
“I have watched nine of the 10 episodes and [they are] f–king awesome. It is weekly event television. Greg Berlanti and the producers have constructed 10 bangers. They really go for it. I’ve cried twice watching [the first nine episodes], and I haven’t even gotten to the finale yet. It’s Emmy-worthy. And, by the way, you can watch this final season without having watched the previous [seasons] and still be emotionally invested in what is happening. It’s a wonderful, 10-episode, contained arc.”

TV Shows With the Most Spin-Offs
Some shows have managed to strike gold multiple times, creating spin-offs that are just as successful – if not more so – than the original.
Despite the setback, hope is not lost for The Librarians franchise continuing on The CW in the future. The network has had a history of shelving and canceling shows, and this step only suggests that The CW wants to find the perfect place for the series to continue its legacy. The original series, The Librarians, garnered critical acclaim for its use of adventure and fantasy tropes and The Librarians: The Next Chapter will no doubt do the same when it gets its chance to shine.
