Apple TV+ has no intention of stepping out of the spy game. Slow Horses, based on the Slough House series of novels, has done really well for Apple TV+ since premiering in 2022, which makes it no surprise that the platform has handed out an early Season 6 renewal for the hit spy thriller.
Per Tech Radar, Slow Horses has been officially renewed for a sixth season, with the news arriving just as Season 4 concluded on Apple TV+. This represents an early renewal for the series as Season 5 was picked up back in January and will debut sometime in 2025.
The sixth season of the series is expected to find our spies on the run after they become involved in a “high-stakes game of revenge,” courtesy of Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), the Deputy Director General of MI5. Season 6 will take its inspiration from the sixth and seventh books in the series of Mick Herron’s novels entitled Joe Country and Slough House, respectively. Season 1 took its inspiration from Slow Horses, Season 2 adapted Dead Lions, and Season 3 and Season 4 took on Real Tigers and Spook Street. All seasons have so far run six episodes each.
Slow Horses Has Been an Awards Contender for Apple TV+
Slow Horses has been a major hit for Apple TV+. While the streamer hasn’t released proper numbers for the series, it has been an awards contender, picking up BAFTA and Emmy Award nominations for star Gary Oldman and his co-star Jack Lowden, while Oldman also scored a Golden Globe nomination for his work. The series’ most significant win has been for its writing, with Will Smith picking up a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on the show. The series also earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series this year.

Slow Horses follows a band of MI5 service rejects in Slough House, a place for individuals who have failed at tasks but haven’t been let go for their incompetence. However, even though Slough House seems to be the bottom of the barrel, the crew finds themselves involved in some of the biggest and most consequential cases in Britain. The series also stars Sophie Okenedo, Jonathan Pryce, and Hugo Weaving.
