In a new interview with Vulture, Clown named Corey Taylor’s top vocal performance.
“Big question. Corey can go from screaming to singing in his sleep,” the percussionist said when asked to pick Taylor’s most ‘gripping’ song. “His confidence is on another level. I could point out so many songs where he can bring you to your knees.”
Shawn Crahan continued, “It’s hard for me to choose between his melody and his aggressive tones. But I would say – and I’m not saying it because it’s a big hit – that ‘Duality’ would be up there.”
“From the beginning of the song, he’s doing things a lot of people wouldn’t dare do,” he further said of Corey’s performance on ‘Duality.’ “Boom, he’s into the melody.”
Clown lastly added, “It’s like he jumped out of a plane and landed right into the song. And then he’s got this crazy voice with these loud effects and he gets to put on a different persona. How does he go through all of that?”
‘Duality’ was released on May 4, 2004, as the first single from their third album, ‘Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses).’ Its music video, directed by Mark Klasfeld and Tony Petrossian, cost $300,000 to $500,000 and was filmed on March 27, 2004, in a fan’s house in Des Moines, Iowa. During the shoot, fans caused heavy damage to the house, breaking windows and walls.
Crahan later recalled that they “asked our real fans to be in the video and people came from all over.” He also added that “it meant so much to us. We weren’t really supposed to destroy that house – but we did it anyway. Another plus for that song is that I get to beat the fuck out of my keg. What else could you want?”
Slipknot has been busy with their 25th-anniversary tour this year and announced more tours for 2025. They just shared dates for their 2025 European tour, starting next summer.
