Slipknot recently introduced a new ‘S’ logo on limited-edition merch, and fan reactions have been mostly negative. Corey Taylor and the band shared the new designs on their social media. They shared T-shirts, tank tops, and long sleeves, each having the reimagined logo. This updated logo has a smoother shape compared to Jordison’s version.
This fresh take on the iconic ‘S’ logo has divided fans. Many shared their disappointment and said they would prefer the original look.
One fan commented, “These all look like bad bootlegs.” Another fan added, “The s on the first one is complete ass guys.”
“The one and only one ‘SLIPKNOT’ symbol, that Originally, Defines, Represents, and Is ‘SLIPKNOT’ was the original one, produced by Joey. I understand how things go sometimes, but that’s taking it way far from Authenticity. the new ‘S’ looks like something a five year old drew for a Chinese food menu. What??? the original is tight in every way. the new, is just not as good or better than the original ‘S’, man, c’mon,” another fan chimed in.
The new ‘S’ logo is called a ‘Ritual S’ on the product page of the Slipknot Merch site. However, some other items in the collection still show the tribal ‘S’ on the sleeves.
Fans on Reddit shared critical comments. “What in the actual f*ck is this horse sh*t? I have the original tattooed on my arm, this feels like an insult if it’s actually being marketed as the new logo,” a fan criticized. Another wrote, “Keep the classic tribal forever. Joey’s original creation. This looks like a child’s interpretation.”
Another user added, “Unpopular opinion: I think it’s perfect for the current iteration of the band. A shell of what it once was but somehow still the ‘Knot.’”
Joey Jordison, Slipknot’s late drummer and original member, created the iconic tribal ‘S’ on his dad’s desk. He told Kerrang! that the design resonated so much with the band that several members got it tattooed even before they were signed.
The merch is available via Slipknot’s new online platform, ‘The Portal.’ The band describes the new merch release as ‘extremely limited’ with no reprints.
