The NFL 2024 season kicked off on September 5, and Spin magazine caught up with several musicians to get their thoughts on the upcoming games. Among them, Slayer’s Kerry King shared his insights on the future of his favorite team, the Las Vegas Raiders.
“I think the only way they’ll make the playoffs is if they get a Wild Card because I don’t see anyone unseating the Kansas City Chiefs,” King commented. “And that’s going to be based on whoever is quarterback, and if the offensive line can keep him on his feet. If they can, then we have a chance to win some games. If they cannot keep him on his feet, we’ve got a chance to lose some games.”
“I’m going to make a pre-season prediction today,” he continued. “Gardner Minshew. I think he’s got the edge on experience, and I think probably gives us the best chance. It’s about him staying on his feet. He can’t keep the defenders from tackling him if the offensive line isn’t cooperating.”
King revealed that he has been a Raiders fan since the 1970s during previous interviews. He spoke about his loyalty to the team in a recent chat with Heavy Consequence, as well.
“I’m a bad guy. I like the bad guys. The Raiders have always been bad guys,” the guitarist shared, “They’re the guys smoking on the sidelines. They’re the guys hung over, getting ready to go in and sack the quarterback and throw massive touchdowns. They’re the dudes hung over and smoking on the sidelines. So, I liked them from Oakland.”
“I liked them in LA. I liked them back in Oakland, and I like them in Vegas. I’m not jaded by them leaving anywhere. I live in New York City now, but I was in Vegas when they came, and I still have my season seats there,” he added.
The Las Vegas Raiders will play against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 8. The following week, they’ll face the Baltimore Ravens, who lost today’s match (September 6) against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The NFL 2024 season will continue until January 2025. Meanwhile, Kerry King will perform with his new solo band as he finishes his 2024 tour, supporting his debut solo album, ‘From Hell I Rise.’
King, alongside band members Paul Bostaph, Mark Osegueda, Phil Demmel, and Kyle Sanders, will take the stage at Arena CDMX in Mexico on November 6.
