Slash is releasing his new blues record ‘Orgy Of The Damned’ soon, but he says it shouldn’t be taken seriously.
In a new interview with Rock Antenne, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist talked about his blues album. He mentioned that everyone took the album seriously, and explained that it was not that serious:
“Everybody’s calling it a blues record and it is got a lot of blues on it. It’s got some R&B on it, it’s got some old school rock and roll on it. It’s really just a record of songs that I grew up listening to that I really dig and I just wanted to be able to record a covers record and be able to play that kind of guitar and whatever. So it’s not supposed to be taken seriously as a blues record.”
He then explained in detail why people shouldn’t take it seriously as a ‘blues record’:
“There’s so many of those now and there’s so many great players doing it and that’s what they do for a living. I’m a rock and roll guy that comes from the blues that’s just doing a bunch of songs that nobody’s ever really heard me do before. So it’s not supposed to be taken that seriously. It’s not trying to rewrite… I don’t even know how to explain it, it’s not trying to jump on the bad way and say I’m a blues guy like all you guys now.”
The ‘Best Idea’ About The Album
The guitarist has many guests featured on his album. Apparently, one of those collaborations was one of the best ideas Slash has ever had for the album.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the Guns ‘N Roses rocker mentioned that he knew he had to cover Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Oh Well.’ For that, he chose to collaborate with Chris Stapleton. He explained:
“His singing cadence and that drawl that he has for this particular song, in my mind’s eye, it sounded perfect. I had to get his number and cold-call him. And he was really gracious about it and really bent over backwards to help me get it done.”
After they recorded the track, it turned out just the way Slash imagined:
“I think it was one of the best ideas I’ve had in recent memory, was to have him sing that song.”
The album will drop on May 17 and features Billy Gibbons, Iggy Pop, Demi Lovato, and more.
