The following article contains spoilers for Silo Season 1.
Season 2 of Silo, Apple TV’s dystopian sci-fi original, will premiere later this year exclusively on the streaming platform on November 15, 2024. Set to join the ensemble cast for season 2 is Steve Zahn, who we had seen previously in The White Lotus, but whose career in Hollywood started with ’90s films like That Thing You Do! and Joy Ride. The character Zahn will play has not yet been confirmed, but considering Season 1’s finale, it’ll probably be someone from… “up there.”
What is Silo About?
In Silo, humanity, at least what’s left of it, is surviving miles below Earth. The last 10,000 humans live in an underground shelter that has the shape of a silo and where new rules have been established. Trying to find out about the past is forbidden, but apparently, records from the past were destroyed centuries ago. Leaving equals death, as the environment outside appears to be toxic: all the silo’s residents can do to see what’s outside is use the facility’s screens.
However, when the silo’s Sheriff follows his late wife’s subversive ideals, the silo begins to crumble. His wife, Allison, didn’t believe in the rules of the silo and decided to leave. Residents saw as she crumbled to the ground right after cleaning the camera outside. Years later, the sheriff claims he also wants to go outside, but this time, we are able to see that outside, there isn’t perhaps a wasteland. The problem is that Sheriff Holston also dies. Still, he leaves a statement assigning Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson), an engineer, to be the next Sheriff. Juliette’s husband, George, died under mysterious circumstances when he also followed Allison’s views and Juliette will use her new position to find out more.
As reported by Deadline, the cast and crew appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con to reveal the release date, the release schedule, and the new cast member. Showrunner Graham Yost, executive producer Hugh Howey – who also wrote the novels that inspired the show – and stars Rebecca Ferguson and Common took the stage before announcing the surprise of Zahn’s addition to the cast. During the panel, they also confirmed that Season 2 will have 10 episodes, released on a weekly basis.
Season 2 of Silo Will Expand on That Shocking Season 1 Finale
Silo
- Release Date
- May 5, 2023

- Sci-Fi
Inspired by Howey’s series of books, Silo showed the society crumbling down in Season 1. Juliette took the job of being the Sheriff, but her investigation of her husband’s death, and her own curiosity, took her to places that showed not everything is as stable and organized in the silo as some would believe. Conspiracies brewing from the inside and the excessive control by the IT department and Judicial get to be too much for those trying to restore order.

Tim Robbins says Silo has an amazing U.K. based production team, unlike the negative algorithm of Hollywood that he feels has to be addressed.
In the season finale, Juliette has found out too much about the leaders of the silo and Judicial’s real role. In fact, she makes sure people see real footage of what is outside, but the transmission is cut short. Eventually, she’s arrested, but they offer her a deal: if Juliette goes out, they will tell her the truth about her husband’s death. She finds out that George committed suicide to avoid being interrogated. When Juliette walks out, she realizes the outside isn’t a beautiful garden-like reality as the glitches showed. It is, in fact, a wasteland where hundreds of silos emerge from the ground and where a destroyed city can be seen far away.
