In a new interview with TMZ, Sid Wilson reflected on his first show with Slipknot after suffering severe burns in a bonfire explosion.
“I’ve been basically bedridden up until then. So, I hadn’t been practicing or anything,” the turntablist said. “And the skin is tighter now, so I have to keep exercising my hand to make sure that the skin doesn’t heal tight as to heal normal.”
Wilson continued, “So, when I was practicing backstage — I practice for, like, anywhere between three and five hours straight before I play. So, I got about — what did I get? About two hours in? Probably about two hours in, because of the logistics of getting to the show.”
“So, I could feel immediately, like, how much tighter the skin was around my hand and the articulation,” Sid added. “The left hand’s not quite as bad as the right. The right arm and hand is pretty bad. The new skin has grown from underneath everything and it’s all flaking off now. We’ve cut most of the skin off.”
Wilson got the burns from a bonfire at his farm in Iowa, where he lives with his girlfriend Kelly Osbourne and their two-year-old son Sidney. “I had an explosion in my face. I’m okay. I’m gonna be okay but I did have some serious burns to my face and arms,” the rocker said in an Instagram video after the incident.
He continued, “My eyebrows are singed. My mouth is blistered. My arms [are burnt] pretty bad — both my arms. I’m gonna be alright, you guys and I don’t care what it takes, I will see you on tour. I’m allergic to fire apparently.”
“My whole right arm is bandaged up, half of my left arm,” Wilson shared an update about his health in a later interview. “My face is basically melted from nose down. But the swelling’s gone down, and they said the face is kind of amazing that it’s regenerative, it happens real fast, seems to heal quickly.”
Sid also said, “My energy’s not, I’m not going to let it get me depressed. The hardest part is just feeling stupid for doing it. That’s the hardest part. It’s not even the physical part. It’s like going, like, ‘Oh, man, I really learned that the hard way.’ I’ve got to make sure I just slow down sometimes and really examine the situation before I just dive in headfirst.”
So, the turntablist didn’t leave his Slipknot members alone on stage at the Rocklahoma festival in Pryor, Oklahoma. The band also has a show on September 7 in Auburn, Washington.
