In a new interview with The Paltrocast, Shinedown drummer Berry Kerch shared his experience of seeing a Van Halen show live. However, things apparently didn’t go as expected. Eddie Van Halen and Sammy Hagar seemed to not stand each other on stage. Kerch said of the two:
“On stage, you couldn’t really tell that they hated each other but occasionally you could. There was one night Sammy was singing and, I don’t know why Eddie was pissed at him but he was, and Eddie comes over and just kicks him as hard as he can, square in the nuts while he’s singing. I’m like, ‘Yeah, they really don’t like each other!’ But I had a dream come true and they sounded great every night.”
How Alex Reacted To The On-Stage Arguments
In the same interview, Kerch also revealed what the band’s drummer Alex Van Halen did after Hagar and Eddie’s arguments. And it appears that he was the only family and the band member who wasn’t around during the conflicts:
“You never saw Alex. Alex would just show up, do the gig, get out because he didn’t want a part of the drama.”
Michael Anthony and Hagar himself also stayed clear of the drama and kept their distance. Nevertheless, Hagar and Eddie were seen as the ones who couldn’t get along.
