In a new conversation with Paper, Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan responded to the ones who criticized Slipknot’s music.
The percussionist reflected on their 25th anniversary and addressed those who expect the group to disband:
“Every magazine, every video interview everybody who was on the fence, for whatever reason wanted to believe that we weren’t going to last. They wanted to believe that the masks and coveralls and all this stuff that I made was supposed to end us right? But secretly, we’re just sitting there like, ‘Are you guys crazy? Have you not heard our music?’ Our music is serious.”
Crahan spoke more on the band’s music:
“It’s Slipknot, it’s serious music. There’s no other music like it in the world. It’s not a game. It’s not a gag. You don’t need all the stuff to just have the music. And you don’t need the music to have all the other stuff. That’s the trick. [That’s] what I’m trying to reiterate here, and I have been trying to reiterate this for over 25 years.”
Slipknot Has Always Been At The Center Of Criticism
Slipknot wasn’t always respected in the music world. Clown talked about how the band used to be underrated in his previous chat with Upset magazine:
“We just never got respect, and that was hard. There were always naysayers, and I get it. I probably should never have been allowed in this business because I’m just a f*cking clown. I’m just an art guy whose best friend happened to be a metal guy, but here I am. I love to play, I love to connect to people, and there’s no competition anymore. We’re the best of the best of the best, in our own mind. It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks. Get the f*ck out of our way, right?”
The band recently revealed their new song, ‘Long May You Die,’ with their new drummer, Eloy Casagrande. Eloy played three shows with the Slipknot: April 25 at Pappy + Harriet’s in Pioneertown, California, April 27 at Sick New World in Las Vegas, Nevada, and May 12 at Welcome To Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida.
