Sex Pistols will perform with a new vocalist.
The group is getting back together for two special concerts this summer. They’ll be performing without their singer, John Lydon. The shows will be held at Bush Hall, a historic venue in West London, on August 13 and 14, 2024.
The band members Paul Cook, Glen Matlock, and Steve Jones will team up with punk vocalist Frank Carter for these concerts. They’ll play their only studio album, ‘Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,’ from start to finish.
What Did Band Members Say About The Reunion Shows?
These concerts will be the first time the Sex Pistols have played together since 2008. Tickets will go on sale on June 5, 2024, and all proceeds will go to support Bush Hall, which has seen a decrease in live music bookings recently. Cook said:
“We’re doing a benefit for Bush Hall with the famous Frank Carter. We’re going to be playing Pistols numbers cause they need support and they need the money. We thought it would be a great way to stop it going under. This is my local venue. I grew up in Shepherd’s Bush and I still live round here. It would be a real shame to see it disappear and we want to keep it going. So everyone get down to the gig!”
Jones added:
“If it all goes wrong, it’s Paul’s f*cking fault.”
Matlock noted after his bandmates:
“I tend to agree with Steve… Smaller music venues are the lifeblood of new music. It’s in these intimate spaces that raw talent gets a chance to shine, where bands can really connect with their audiences, and where the spirit of live music truly comes alive so we need to keep them going.”
The Issues Between Lydon And Others
Disagreements between Lydon and other Pistols members continue for a while. Matlock previously blamed Lydon’s controversial opinions for preventing a reunion. He mentioned Lydon’s support for Donald Trump as a reason for the rift. He expressed discomfort with standing on stage with someone wearing a MAGA hat.
Lydon also later revealed that he felt betrayed by his former bandmates, who he thought were his friends. He learned they were plotting against him behind his back, pushing him out of the band’s control.
