In a new chat with Metal Hammer, Scott Ian revealed whether Anthrax offered Dave Grohl to sing on their new record.
“Not yet. But you never know,” the guitarist replied when asked if Grohl was asked to join the new Anthrax album. “The dude has one of the best rock screams ever. I wouldn’t complain if that appeared somewhere.”
Anthrax has been working on their next album at Studio 606, the studio of Grohl. “None of the songs are actually finished-finished,” Ian said of their upcoming record. “Joey’s [Belladonna, vocalist] sang on nine of them. I’ve got lyrics to write for four of them. I think all the songs will be good enough to come out in some way, shape or form.”
Frank Bello also shared an update on Anthrax’s new album in February, speaking with Rodney McG. “We officially finished drums, bass and guitar, which is great,” he explained. “I know my bass tracks are done, so I’m kind of psyched.”
Bello added, “Right now, it’s up to… I think Joey’s [Belladonna, Anthrax vocalist] singing his sixth or seventh song; I’m pretty sure on that. Jon Donais [Anthrax guitarist], I think he’s starting his guitars, or maybe he started them already.”
“We had a session here in L.A., Charlie, Frankie and I tracked nine songs,” Ian also told Eddie Trunk last year about the recording session. “I finished the guitars on those right before we went to New York, sometime in June, something like that. Frankie is currently in L.A. tracking bass on those songs…”
He also noted, “I’m going to the studio on Friday, since I’ve had time, like a month to live with my guitar tracks, I’ve heard lots of things that I think are very cool to add, so I’m going in Friday to spend a day doing some overdubs. Donais is already working on solos back East at his home studio and I am working on lyrics. So I think we’re well into it, let’s put it that way.”
It’ll be a follow-up to 2016’s ‘For All Kings.’ Anthrax plans to release their new record in the spring of 2025.
