‘A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter’ is coming to TV screens this December featuring songs from the singer’s EP ‘Fruitcake,’ covers of holiday classics and special guests.
Netflix is releasing a holiday variety music special featuring pop star Sabrina Carpenter, the streamer announced Thursday.
The special, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, was teased in a new social media video featuring the singer decked out in sparkly Santa bodysuit. “Expecting someone else?” Carpenter asked the camera in the video.
“The holidays have always been so special to me,” Carpenter said in a release. “I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show, infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.”
Carpenter’s variety music special will feature special guests as the singer performs songs from her 2023 holiday EP Fruitcake, where the special gets its name from, and covers of iconic songs. It will also include comedic guests and unexpected cameos, according to the streamer.
“Sabrina’s vision to subvert the classic holiday special has been clear since day one,” executive producer and CEO and founder of OBB Michael D. Ratner said in a release.
The special comes amidst a banner year for the 25-year-old pop star, who earned her first No. 1 album and single over the summer with Short ‘N Sweet and “Please Please Please,” respectively. Carpenter’s latest single “Taste” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last month; it currently sits at No. 6.
Last week, Carpenter wowed audiences at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of her summer hits “Please Please Please,” “Taste” and “Espresso.” She kicked off the performance from the sky on a swing. After being lowered to the stage, Carpenter was then joined by an alien and astronaut as they danced around on a set that resembled the moon in space. The singer also took home song of the year for “Espresso.”
A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter was produced by OBB Pictures and At Last Productions, with Carpenter, OBB’s Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Simone Spira, Kfir Goldberg for OBB and Bill Perlman and Janelle Lopez Genzink serving as executive producers.
The special begins streaming exclusively on Netflix on Dec. 6. at 9 p.m. eastern time.
