The pop star performed her biggest hits from this summer, including “Please Please Please,” “Taste” and “Espresso.”
Sabrina Carpenter gave a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards that was quite literally out of this world Wednesday night.
After being introduced by legendary singer Cyndi Lauper, Carpenter performed some of her biggest hits from this summer, including “Please Please Please,” “Taste” and “Espresso.”
Sporting a silver, sparkly outfit, the artist kicked off her performance from the sky on a swing with “Taste.” After being lowered to the stage, Carpenter was then joined by an alien and astronaut as they danced around on a set that resembled the moon in space.
She later gave the alien an onstage kiss and was then met with an entourage of astronauts. They proceeded to all dance in unison for the rest of the performance as she sang “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
The singer was also nominated for six VMAs at Wednesday’s ceremony, including artist of the year, song of the year for “Espresso,” best pop artist, best direction and best art direction for “Please Please Please” and best editing for “Espresso.”
Carpenter has achieved new levels of success this year, notably with the release of her latest album Short N’ Sweet last month, which ultimately became the first No. 1 album of her career on the Billboard 200 chart. She also had three songs land in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “Espresso,” “Taste” and “Please Please Please” (which also became her first No. 1 single).
“I’ve never really been on charts until quite recently, so it’s a newfound, like … I’m interested. It’s not the reason I write music and it’s not the reason I’ll ever write music,” she told The Guardian in August. “It’s like the sprinkles on top of the sundae.”
The 2024 VMAs, hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, were held at Long Island’s UBS Arena Wednesday night.
