Ryan Reynolds rarely misses the opportunity to have a little fun online, and being called “not so funny in real life” by Martha Stewart was a moment he was not going to allow to pass. Stewart is currently enjoying success on Netflix, with the documentary movie Martha charting on the platform after its recent release. However, it was her appearance on the Rent Free game show when she shared her insight into being Reynolds’ neighbor.
Although Reynolds has spent many years entertaining on screen and on social media, it seems that Stewart doesn’t quite feel that Reynolds is as much fun in day-to-day life as a lot of people would think. During a round of the show when she was required to work out the top three celebrities that the public believe would be fun to hang out with, she managed to guess that Reynolds was one of them – two others being Snoop Dogg and friend of the Reynolds family Taylor Swift – but the 83-year-old added a quick note of her own opinion.
“You want to know something? He’s not so funny in real life. No, he’s not so funny. He’s very serious. He’s a good actor. He can act funny, but he isn’t funny. Maybe he can get to be funny again. I’m gonna get in trouble. He’s my neighbor.”
Stewart has become well known for speaking her mind over the years, and although there was clearly no malice in her appraisal of the Deadpool star, her curt words were more than enough to garner a response from one of Canada’s biggest exports. Taking to X/Twitter, Reynolds shared his reply with his usual humorous touch.
I’d disagree with her. But I tried that once. The woman is unexpectedly spry. She really closed the gap after a mile or so.
Ryan Reynolds May Not Be Quite as Funny in Real Life, But That is Fine
Like everyone who has any kind of celebrity presence, there is a difference between the person seen out on the street and the person who is seen behind closed doors. There are few people who believe that Reynolds is a one-man joke machine all the time. In fact, the actor has previously opened up about his struggles with mental health, and in 2021 he spoke openly about the anxiety he had felt throughout his life in the hopes that it would show young people that there is nothing wrong with sharing their feelings at any time.

Deadpool & Wolverine Stars Could Host the 2025 Oscars
The possible plan is to have an ensemble of rotating hosts, which could include Deadpool & Wolverine stars, Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman.
Of course, on screen – and generally whenever a camera is present – Reynolds can be a tour de force of one-liners and quips. This has previously been seen in full flow whenever he steps up to take a few shots at his friend and faux online punching bag Hugh Jackman. Since their collaboration on Deadpool & Wolverine, they have not shared quite as many digs at each other as usual – but we don’t expect it to be too long before they are jovially tearing chunks out of each other again. Perhaps just don’t expect Reynolds to now have the same kind of online banter with Martha Stewart.
