Security around Marvel movies almost has a legendary status, and is the stuff of memes thanks to Kevin Feige’s reported hit squad that he has to deal with anyone who leaks secrets of upcoming movies – yes, we know he doesn’t really have one, but it is a fun idea nonetheless. However, one person who came up with a simple way to stop spoiler leaks was Ryan Reynolds, who has revealed that he was “f*cking scared” about Deadpool & Wolverine’s legacy character roster being revealed too early – only for Marvel tp spoil it all themselves.
Deadpool & Wolverine delivered many surprising appearances from Marvel stars past and present, with brief glimpses of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor accompanying the appearance of older Marvel franchise actors such as Chris Evans, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, Dafne Keen, and the never-was appearance of Channing Tatum as Gambit. Sharing his fears about leaks happening, Reynolds says in the recently released movie commentary (via GamesRadar)
“I was so f*cking scared that people would see [Wesley Snipes, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Garner, and Dafne Keen]. Genuinely, it kept me up at night. We managed to lock the area off enough and we had a plan in place if anyone saw a drone – because oftentimes they got images via drone. If anyone saw a drone, we would yell it out and basically everyone runs for cover. We never had to actually deploy that little tactic, but I lived in fear of this coming out.”
Ryan Reynolds’ Plan to Stop ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Spoilers was Spoiled by Marvel
Even before filming on Deadpool & Wolverine began, there were several rumors that Jennifer Garner would be slipping back into her role as Elektra, reprising the part she played in Ben Affleck’s divisive Daredevil movie, and her own heavily panned solo outing. Then there was the confirmation of Keen’s return as Laura/X23, which was inexplicably given away in the final trailer for the film.
However, one of the biggest head-scratchers, was the decision to bring out all the actors at the SDCC Marvel panel before more than a handful of people had been able to see the movie. While it delivered a great crowd reaction at the event, anyone who had managed to avoid spoilers about these reprisals had the whole thing blown wide open by Kevin Feige.

Of course, in the grand scheme of things, neither during production set-leaks nor intentional premature reveals made any difference to the inevitable box office and critical success of Deadpool & Wolverine. One of the biggest movies of the year, and of Marvel’s recent history, Reynolds’ team up with Hugh Jackman delivered everything audiences wanted and more – whether they knew about it in advance or not. While it is still unclear what the future holds for any of the characters seen in the movie, fans would not be unhappy to see any of them return for at least one more appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars.
