Ryan Reynolds is now working on a Deadpool & Wolverine reunion, with the actor and writer developing a new project that will see himself, Logan star Hugh Jackman, and filmmaker Shawn Levy work together once again. Following the release of the hugely successful MCU outing, details of the project remain largely under wraps, but Reynolds revealed on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast that the movie will see the trio team-up outside the world of Marvel.
“I’m spending the year writing. I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel.”
For now, Reynolds is keeping any further details close to the chest. Clearly, the actor loved his time working alongside Jackman on this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine and is doing everything he can to share the big screen with him again. The report indicates that the movie will be “fresh and unexpected,” and that Reynolds will be working on the project “over the next 12 months.” It is currently “unknown whether it’s a project that a studio has given the green light.” But with Reynolds and Jackman leading the way, it’s likely every studio will want to get their hands on it. Whatever it is.
This would also mark Reynolds’ third time working alongside director Shawn Levy, with the pair having collaborated on the hit action-comedy Free Guy, the sci-fi action outing The Adam Project and, of course, the box office dominating Deadpool & Wolverine.
Deadpool & Wolverine Is All Set To Land on Disney+ Next Week
Directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay he wrote alongside Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, Deadpool & Wolverine was released back in July and finds the character’s peaceful existence come crashing down when the Time Variance Authority recruits him to help safeguard the multiverse. He soon unites with his would-be pal, Wolverine, to complete the mission and save his world from an existential threat.
The Marvel outing saw huge critical and financial success, with a host of cameos, including Channing Tatum as Gambit, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant, making it one of the most crowd-pleasing MCU movies for some time. The sequel grossed over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, the 20th-highest-grossing movie of all time, and the second-highest-grossing movie of 2024.
