Scooby-Doo is as popular as ever – well, we won’t talk about Velma – and while there are several animated and live-action projects currently in development for both Max and Netflix, the bizarre world of AI-generated movie trailers has beaten them to the punch to deliver a star-studded “what if” concept trailer for a new live-action movie.
The trailer, which is narrated by an AI version of Shaggy, brings together some intriguing – and some odd – casting choices to develop a new Mystery Inc. team. Starting from the top, we have the voice of Scooby-Doo being listed as Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds (a bit of a waste considering his supposed Scooby voice is not heard, and he appears in fully canine form removing any kind of celebrity identity), and the role of Shaggy going to pop-star-turned-actor Harry Styles. The rest of the gang comprises of Zac Efron as a very youthful looking Fred, Sydney Sweeney (hilariously credited as Sweeney Sydney in the trailer) as Daphne, and Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown in an unlikely casting as Velma.
The trailer rounds off with two dubious characters, one of whom would undoubtedly get unmasked as the villain by “those pesky kids.” These are played by Jacob Elordi, in full hooded bad guy mode, and one time He-Man candidate Noah Centineo as a handyman character who, in true Scooby-Doo fashion, will no doubt turn out to be the real villain of the piece. Of course, we are never going to see this version in real-life, so we can only speculate on that. You can check out the video below.
The Future of Scooby-Doo
Currently, there are several iterations of Scooby-Doo heading to screens, as well as the return of Max series Velma this Halloween. Announced this week, the one-off (many hope) Velma: This Halloween Needs To Be More Special! will arrive on Max on October 3 to continue one of the most controversial takes on the long-running animated franchise.
Outside of this, there are always new animated feature films being made for direct-to-streaming releases, but there is also the surprise live-action TV series that is currently being developed for Netflix by Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti. Although there are very few details currently known about this latest iteration of the franchise, it has been described as having the same kind of vibe as popular shows such as Riverdale.
While fans wait for that new arrival, they can indulge in some classic Scooby-Doo content that has just arrived on Max. The ‘90s series A Pup Named Scooby-Doo recently landed on the platform, with all 27 episodes available to stream now for subscribers, along with the animated movies Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase, and Aloha! Scooby-Doo. On the series front, other classic shows that have recently joined Max include The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, The New Scooby-Doo Movies, and the Vincent Price-starring The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
