In a recent tweet, Roger Waters called Elon Musk a ‘coward.’
The musician shared the words of Musk where he previously said that X would suspend accounts using ‘from the river to the sea’ and ‘decolonisation,’ claiming they call for ‘a Jewish genocide’ and wrote:
“Elon, you are a coward. We have watched you bow down to the zionist entity the only road to peace in the holy land is equal human rights for all our brothers and sisters irrespective of ethnicity religion or nationality ‘From The River to The Sea.’”
What Did Musk Exactly Say?
These phrases Musk mentioned last November are used by activists for Palestinian freedom but are seen by Israel supporters and others as antisemitic and calling for the destruction of the Jewish state. Musk wrote at the time:
“As I said earlier this week, ‘decolonization,’ ‘from the river to the sea’ and similar euphemisms necessarily imply genocide. Clear calls for extreme violence are against our terms of service and will result in suspension.”
He added:
“At risk of stating the obvious, anyone advocating the genocide of *any* group will be suspended from this platform.”
Waters’ Support For Palestine
Waters has openly criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza many times before. Waters’ activism is evident in his performances, where he wears a Palestinian kheffiyeh and displays names and photos of political prisoners and victims on large screens. His outspoken stance has led to show cancellations and accusations of anti-Semitism. He earlier said in an open letter:
“Because I support human rights and criticise the Israeli government for its violations, I am routinely accused of being antisemitic. That accusation can be used as a smokescreen to divert attention and discredit those who shine a light on Israel’s crimes against humanity. I should point out that I support the fight for human rights for all oppressed peoples everywhere. The religion of the oppressor is neither here nor there. If I support the Rohingyas and deplore Myanmars’ persecution of them, it doesn’t make me anti-Buddhist.”
Still, David Draiman of Disturbed previously expressed his dislike for Waters, calling him antisemitic and a hypocrite. Draiman criticized Waters’ political views and support for dictators, saying he would gladly face jail time for the chance to confront Waters in person.
