Rod Stewart faced boos from the crowd at a concert in Leipzig on June 14 after he showed support for Ukraine.
It started when Stewart saluted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and images of the Ukrainian flag, and the devastation in Ukraine, and Zelenskyy appeared on a big screen behind him. During the show,
Stewart dedicated his 1991 song ‘Rhythm of My Heart’ to Ukraine, as he has done before. He shouted:
“F*ck Putin!”
As the song ended and a picture of President Zelensky appeared, some of the audience loudly booed.
Stewart’s Response To The Reaction
A few days later, the singer told PA about the show and his support:
“I have supported the Ukrainian people throughout this war. From arranging for members of my family to take supplies to the country, to renting a house in the UK for a Ukrainian family… So yes, I do support Zelensky and the people of Ukraine, and I will continue to do so.”
Stewart has also made strong comments about Russian President Vladimir Putin during other concerts. He said:
“Putin must be stopped. I’m enjoying performing for German audiences, reminiscing about some special memories, and I’m excited for my upcoming shows here.”
Sir Rod was performing at the Quarterback Immobilien Arena in Leipzig, the largest city in Saxony during the time of the incident.
