Rod Stewart is thinking about the end of his career.
In a new interview with The Sun, Stewart admitted that his time in the spotlight is running out. He said of his career:
“I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear. We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few – probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”
Talking about how things have changed over the years, both in society and with his own body, Stewart added:
“I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that. Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.”
Stewart’s Health Scares
Although he can’t turn back time, Stewart learned to take things one day at a time and focus more on his health. Over the years, he’s had several health scares. In 2019, he appeared on the talk show ‘Loose Women’ and talked about his fight with prostate cancer. He said:
“I had a touch of thyroid cancer, it was over and out within 10 minutes. I don’t want to pretend I fought cancer for months and months. It was really easy to get rid of, but I did lose my voice – totally gone.”
Is Retirement Near?
Though it looks like he might retire soon, the rocker shut down the retirement rumors last year.
Rumors about his retirement started when the Daily Mail reported that his family wanted him to ‘step back’ from his career because of health issues. To clear things up, the rocker posted a series of tweets explaining whether he would really be retiring:
“I’d like to clear up any confusion that I may have caused with my dear fans and the media. I shall never retire! I was put on this earth to be a singer and will keep doing so for as long as the good lord lets me. I’ll be playing the hits as advertised for the UK, US, South America, and Vegas and into 2024, but no retirement as such.”
In addition to that, Stewart said in an interview a few weeks ago that he wasn’t planning to slow down and that he only wanted to do what gave him great pleasure.
