Take That’s Robbie Williams thinks Matty Healy is one of the only viable rock stars of our time.
The 1975 frontman found himself in trouble many times due to his words and actions. While many think it’s controversial, Williams thinks it’s this attitude that makes him one of the standout musicians.
In his recent social media post, the singer talked about how today’s music lacks excitement, risk, and personality, calling it ‘boring.’ However, in the same post, he gave a shoutout to Healy and praised him. He wrote:
“Matt Healy is the only commercially viable Pop/Rock star that I can see who is willing to be something other than beige. I really like Matt he’s unhinged, super smart, super talented and willing to upset. Upsetting for a cause. The cause being a complicated inner life a rebellious streak and boredom.”
The Controversy Of Healy
While Healy has been in many controversial acts, one of the most attention-grabbing ones is their Malaysia show.
Healy has a habit of pulling fans onto the stage during a specific song and kissing them during his performances. However, a festival in Malaysia got canceled because Matty kissed not a fan, but his bandmate on stage.
During their performance at Malaysia’s Good Vibes Festival, Healy aimed to protest against the country’s anti-LGBTQ+ government. So he kissed his bandmate Ross MacDonald on stage. This move ended up getting their show and the whole festival canceled for ‘breaking the guidelines.’
Still, the band didn’t receive a ban for future shows.
Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching clarified that considering a concert ban for a single incident would be unjust to all the other artists. Ching said:
“Just because of one incident, how can we cancel the others? Out of 296 artists, only one incident occurred. How is this fair?”
The singer faced severe consequences for his controversial kiss with his bandmate. Reports stated that he was arrested and came close to shaving his head along with MacDonald because they believed they were heading to prison.
