Rick Beato has raised concerns about AI-generated music and its growing influence on the music industry. In a new video titled ‘I Told You This Was Going To Happen,’ the musician and the producer admitted he often finds it difficult to tell apart AI-generated voices from real ones. He shared:
“If you want to sound like computers, it’s easier for computers to computers to sound like computers than it is for people to sound like computers.”
He added:
“They’ll just bypass the people, and the companies that make this stuff will make all the money. Because people will listen to this.”
What this means is that it might be more profitable to buy stocks in music companies instead of starting a band. Additionally, investing in music industry companies could make more financial sense for earning money.
‘Streaming Services Will Have Their Own AI-Music’
Beato earlier shared his worries about artificial intelligence as well. In November 2023, Beato testified at a Senate hearing about the technology. Almost four months later, he discussed it again during an interview with News 8 WROC. He shared his mixed views on the matter:
“There will be things that people like, that are created by AI, and there will be people 20 years from now, [saying], ‘Oh, I much prefer AI Rolling Stones than [the original] Rolling Stones. That’s just gonna be a thing.”
He added that iconic bands such as Led Zeppelin and The Beatles will soon have AI versions of their bands:
“People, companies – whether it’s Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, Warner Music, UMG, Sony – are gonna have all their own AI-generated music. Those are the downsides. Who’s gonna hold the copyright on it? What are the songs that the models are gonna be trained on? I believe, in the future, you’ll go to Apple Music or Spotify, you’ll see The Beatles, and The Beatles AI; Led Zeppelin, and Led Zeppelin AI.”
