Rex Brown is open to making new music with Pantera, but can’t say much about it for now.
In a new interview with AndrewHaug, Brown was asked about the possibility of new Pantera music. Surprisingly, his response was positive. He shortly said:
“Oh, absolutely. Yeah, I could tell you more but I’m not going to.”
The rocker also shared his excitement over the new and younger fans earlier in the same conversation. He continued:
“We’re pinching ourselves over these new fans that have never seen this before, and it’s a whole another generation that we either didn’t know a) that were out there, b) that were still listening to us, and the turnout has just been unbelievable. Of course, at first you had the naysayers and all that stuff, and as we played gig by gig, it’s made us tighter. And I’ve been trying to rehearse this band as much as I can within schedules, and we’ll just go down for no f*cking reason and just jam. That’s what makes a band tight.”
Zakk Wylde Says Otherwise
Although the bassist was positive about new music, Zakk Wylde says the opposite. During a previous interview, the guitarist discussed playing the parts Dimebag Darrell wrote years ago and mentioned new music. Apparently, it’s out of question for now. He said:
“I guess that would be a bridge we’d cross when we get there. But we’re so busy doing this right now, we’ve never even thought about it.”
Wylde previously said that they would release new songs under a different name.
Benante’s Thoughts About New Music
The drummer Charlie Benante had other comments about new music. Though he is okay with new music, the drummer has concerns about fan expectations. He is also aware that some fans might not take it well that Pantera is back on the road for new music without Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.
In Benante’s words, the band is open to make a live album rather than a studio album. In another conversation with The Vinyl Guide Podcast, Benante said:
“Yeah. We talked about that. We’ll see. We record a lot, and it’s probably just spending time with it and seeing what shows are good or taking a song from this show or a song from that show and compiling it for a live record. I would love to do that.”
Pantera are to support Metallica on a stadium tour next year.
