Queens of the Stone Age canceled all 2024 tour dates after Josh Homme’s emergency surgery.
“QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows. Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year,” the band wrote in their Instagram post.
The group was set to play eight shows in North America this fall, starting with two nights in Boston on September 27 and 28. Their five solo shows, including Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago, and Madison, Wisconsin, are now moved to 2025. They also had to cancel festival appearances in Bridgeport, Memphis, and Mexico City.
“Josh and the QOTSA family are so thankful for your support and the time we were able to spend together over the last year. Hope to see you all again in 2025,” the band added in their message.
In July, Queens of the Stone Age announced they were canceling their remaining July tour dates. They shared on social media that Homme needed emergency surgery in the US, so they couldn’t continue with their European shows.
The statement said, “QOTSA regret to announce that Josh Homme must return to the United States immediately for emergency surgery. Every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue.”
The canceled shows included eight headlining and festival dates from July 10 in Vitrolles, France, to July 27 in Athens. Details about the singer’s surgery are unknown, but he has mentioned health struggles before.
In June 2023, Homme shared that he was diagnosed with cancer a year earlier. He told Revolver that he had a successful surgery to remove it but didn’t give details.
“I never say it can’t get any worse. I never say that, and I wouldn’t advise it. But I do say it can get better,” he said at the time. “Cancer is just the cherry on top of an interesting time period, you know? I’m extremely thankful that I’ll get through this, and I’ll look back at this as something that’s f*cked up — but will have made me better. I’m cool with that. There’s a lot of stuff I want to do. And there’s a lot of people I want to do that with.”
The group was touring to promote their latest album, ‘In Times New Roman …,’ released in June 2023.
