The Duke of Sussex is receiving the Pat Tillman Award for Service, which is “given to a person with a strong connection to sports who has served others in a way that echoes the legacy of the former NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger, Pat Tillman,” according to a press release from ESPN.
The award is being given to Harry for his creation of The Invictus Games, which recently celebrated its and .
Harry, who served in the British Armed Forces for 10 years, launched The Invictus Games in London to honor active duty and veteran servicemembers who have been wounded, injured or sick on the job. The participants hail from over 20 countries for the event.
In May, Harry attended a panel discussion with the organization and followed by a celebration at St Paul’s Cathedral in London along with veterans involved in the various Invictus Games sports. He later was joined by wife where he met the country’s chief of defense staff, attended a reception in honor of military families and met with injured service members at a military hospital.
The Duchess of Sussex also co-hosted an event for women in leadership.

The 2024 ESPYS, which airs live on ABC on July 11 at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT, will be hosted by tennis superstar .
Alongside Harry, Steve Gleason will receive the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage and Dawn Staley is being honored the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. All other winners can be voted on by fans .
