Schitt’s Creek co-creators, stars, and father and son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy are set to host the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. This will mark the first time a father and son have shared hosting duties, and it would be hard to find a pair better suited to the task. Although this is the first time the two serve as hosts, they’re not precisely Emmy newbies. The Levys have been on the receiving end of a number of awards each: Eugene earned two Emmys for his work on the sketch comedy series SCTV Network 90 and two for Schitt’s Creek, while Dan’s wins stemmed from his work on the latter show. Besides earning the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series, Dan earned directing and writing wins for his work on the series’ finale.
In a statement announcing this year’s host, the Levys shared:
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough. We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all.”
For its final season, which aired in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Schitt’s Creek earned 15 Emmy Award nods. During the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, the comedy made history as the first-ever series to sweep the four acting categories. Dan and Annie Murphy won for supporting roles, and Eugene and Catherine O’Hara took the Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress awards.
Eugene is also a nominee this year for The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy. The Apple TV+ comedy travel series is nominated for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special and Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program. Shogun, The Bear, and Only Murders in the Building lead this year’s Emmy nominations. The two latter shows will face off for the Best Comedy alongside Abbott Elementary, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs and What We Do in the Shadows.
Will Fans Get More Schitt’s Creek?
Following Schitt’s Creek’s conclusion, Dan Levy has appeared in several films and series, including Happiest Season, The Idol, Haunted Mansion, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Unfrosted. He also has several projects lined up, including The Smurfs Movie and Animal Friends. While seeing him and his father on-stage for the Emmys is undoubtedly exciting for Schitt’s Creek fans, it brings one question back to the lips of many fans. Will we ever get a Schitt’s Creek continuation to see what the Rose family is up to now? Well, the answer’s not exactly “no.”
Dan, who co-created Schitt’s Creek with his father, isn’t against getting the Roses back together. During the premiere of Good Grief late last year, he shared:
“I love the fact that people want more but it has to beat what we’ve done, and that’s a tough thing to do. So until the idea comes to me, who knows?”
