Placebo went through some technical issues during their show at the OpenAir St Gallen festival in Switzerland on June 30.
During their show, Placebo had technical problems that made them end their set earlier than planned. Since the show went down, some people have been accusing the band of using backing tracks.
Ultimately, the frontman Brian Molko took to the band’s Instagram account to address the allegations. He shared a lengthy statement, which addressed both the issues during the performance and the negative comments about the alleged ‘backing tracks.’ He wrote:
“Placebo use no recordings onstage. Everything is 100 percent live. It appears obvious that this is still insufficient for certain entitled & demanding individuals. Technical issues and truncated sets are a part and parcel aspect of live performance. And it is something no band has control over.”
‘Get A Life’
Molko also suggested that if people weren’t happy with their shows, they should watch other bands that rely on backing tracks instead:
“If the idea of this unavoidable situation continues to enrage you regardless, we suggest that you go watch bands where most of the music coming from the stage is recorded. We also suggest you get a sense of perspective and try to take a look at this situation from a point of view that isn’t yours – if you are at all capable. This is a polite way of saying- get a life.”
In the rest of the statement, Molko stated that instead of leaving the stage, their guitarist-bassist Stefan Olsdal switched to bass to continue their set. He ended his statement by saying that no one is forced to come and watch their shows if they don’t want to.
Placebo will continue their European tour in the next few months, including gigs at the Łódź Summer Festival in Poland and Sonorama Ribera Day in Santander, Spain.
