Kirk Windstein recently spoke about Down’s plans for a new album in a chat with That Metal Interview. Windstein plays in the supergroup alongside vocalist Philip H. Anselmo, guitarist Pepper Keenan, drummer Jimmy Bower, and bassist Pat Bruders.
“I’ve been in Down world [for the last few months] kinda, writing with Down and finishing up the writing for the album that’s [gonna come] out next year at some point,” the Crowbar singer revealed. “We’ve got 10 new songs, man. It’s awesome.”
The band hinted at new material earlier this year, sharing photos of their writing sessions. Jimmy Bower later confirmed to Laughingmonkeymusic, “We got together about a month or two ago, and we were practicing with just me, Pat, Kirk, and Pepper. Phil lives on the other side of the lake [in Louisiana].”
“We got together over at his house for a weekend, and we have seven songs, man. We’re supposed to get together again in April, and then talk about recording, trying to get this thing out.”
It’s been a while since fans have heard new music from Down, with their last EP, ‘Down IV – Part Two,’ coming out in May 2014. The release sold around 10,000 copies in its first week and reaching Number 23 on The Billboard 200 chart.
The band also performed several live shows this year, including dates in Louisiana at Southport Hall in New Orleans on June 20 and Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge on June 21, and a rescheduled concert at Inn Of The Mountain Gods Resort And Casino in Mescalero, New Mexico on September 27.
