Megastar Peyton List has somehow found herself living in the spirit world. The charming Disney Channel regular became an even bigger hit with Cobra Kai, but she got arguably the most attention from playing someone who has disappeared — Maddie Nears (but so far away) in the Paramount+ series, School Spirits. In that show, she’s a high school student who lives in the spectral realm, a place she is revisiting with the newly released movie, Girl Haunts Boy.
In Girl Haunts Boy, she plays another ghostly student, Bea, except this time, she died in the 1920s and has been stuck inside one house ever since. That is, until the sweet Cole (played by Michael Cimino) finds the other half of her ring and can suddenly communicate with her and take her outside. In an interview with MovieWeb, List tells us that while both Maddie and Bea may be spirits of a sort, that’s about all that connects them. “I think they couldn’t be more different,” said List, adding with a laugh:
“I think the only thing they have in common is that no one can see them, and that’s a fun thing to play. Just everyone in the cast getting yelled at, ‘Do not look at Peyton! Do not make eye contact with her!’ That is all that we have in common. Yeah, they could not be more different.”

Peyton List & Michael Cimino Share Memories Making Girl Haunts Boy and More Ghostly Thoughts
The stars of Girl Haunts Boy discuss their supernatural romance movie, and Peyton List teases School Spirits Season 2.
“I think Bea [in Girl Haunts Boy] is a lot more optimistic and has a lot more energy than Maddie,” explained List, who continued:
But, um, yeah, it’s weird. I definitely did not intentionally want to play two characters that have that similarity. It sort of happened that way. I just loved both scripts right around the same time.
After the death of his father, Cole moves with his mother to a new house in a new town to discover he’s also sharing a room with the ghost of 17-year-old Bea, an adventurous, funny teenager from the 1920s who is trapped in present day and has been haunting the house under the curse of an ancient ring. The two lonely teens become fast friends and eventually fall in love – but when Cole discovers a way to undo the curse, he must decide whether to keep Bea with him or let her go.

Peyton List on School Spirits Season 2 & New Co-Star Jess Gabor
After the revelations of School Spirits‘ finale in Season 1, fans know that List is playing a different sort of ghost in Season 2, and she’s extremely stoked for it. “Yeah, there’s two new cast members I’m really excited about,” said List, “and this actress, Jess Gabor, who I worked with really closely this season, because I’m playing two characters. She’s just so talented and brings so much.”
“Really the second season has multiple genres going on. It really took like a much darker, thriller sort of space, and it was fun to play. And we had really fun directors, and they just brought a whole new energy to it. Craig Johnson, who did Skeleton Twins, he came and everyone’s just so fun to collaborate with. I’m really excited for the season. I think it’s going to be even better.”
