Peter Frampton canceled his show because Megadeth broke the stage.
“So, we had a show canceled the other day because of weather. And also Megadeth did a soundcheck, I think a couple of days before our show, and after they finished their soundcheck, there was structural damage to the stage,” the guitarist told the crowd in his show at The Met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Frampton added, “I’m not blaming them — could have been another band — but it looks pretty like it. So, sorry, Megadeth. I had to rat on you.”
Megadeth and Frampton both had their concerts canceled at the Richmond Raceway in Virginia earlier this week. “Due to unexpected and unpredictable circumstances, our show tonight, Sunday, Sept. 15, in Richmond, Virginia, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled,” Megadeth also released a statement on social media.
After Frampton’s show was canceled, AEG Presents, which books the venue, did not reply to the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s questions.
Frampton announced his Positively Thankful Tour in June. “Its ‘been an incredible year for me and my band so far,” the musician said in a press release. “First the nomination, then you guys voted like crazy and got me into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Come September, we’ll be back out for nine more shows on the Positively Thankful Tour.”
Frampton finished his Never Ever Say Never Tour in April. He was diagnosed with inclusion body myositis in 2019. He had a farewell tour to end his long career, but then he chose to tour again. “I’m allowed to change my mind — that I wanted to quit while I was ahead and could still play at the top of my game,” he said in a 2023 chat with UCR.
He continued, “And things have slipped a little, but my band said, ‘What are you talking about? We can’t notice any difference.’ So I said, ‘Well, I know,’ because of the choices that I would make in an ad-lib solo, which is what I do all night. My choices are different, but they’re not worse. It’s just a different way of playing.”
The Positively Thankful Tour started on September 8 in North Charleston, South Carolina, and ends on September 23 in Northfield, Ohio.
