The reason behind Perry Farrell’s frustration and attack on Dave Navarro in a recent Jane’s Addiction show is now clear.
Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell took to Instagram to share the footage from the show. She explained in the caption why Parrell attacked his bandmate on stage.
“WHY: Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” Etty Lau wrote. “Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.”
“HOW: Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members… the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave’s face and body checked him,” she added.
Etty Lau’s post got more criticism than positive feedback. “I say this with care: stop enabling your husband,” a user wrote. “‘The sound was bad so my husband thought physical violence against someone who doesn’t control the sound was a good idea’ Kay,” another user added.
“It’s almost like you or Perry don’t know what an audio engineer is. Your husband needs rehab,” another commented.
The incident happened on September 13 at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, Massachusetts. Towards the end of Jane’s Addiction’s set while they were finishing up ‘Ocean Size,’ Farrell bumped into Navarro, got in his face, and swore at him. Navarro looked confused and asked what was happening. Navarro eventually stopped playing and put a hand on Farrell’s chest.
Farrell then appeared to punch Navarro before being held back by a roadie and the band’s bassist Eric Avery. Avery and the road crew managed to restrain Farrell and get him offstage.
This left fans wondering if the reunion shows will take place exactly as planned after both this recent incident and a previous one. As of now, the band only canceled their show in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Everything else on the tour looks like it’s still on track.
