Perry Farrell attacked Dave Navarro during Jane’s Addiction concert on September 13 at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, Massachusetts.
The incident happened towards the end of Jane’s Addiction’s set while they were finishing up ‘Ocean Size.’ Farrell was seemed to be drunk or high and had been mumbling lyrics. He bumped into Navarro, got in his face, and swore at him. Navarro looked confused and asked what was happening. Navarro eventually stopped playing and put a hand on Farrell’s chest. Farrell then appeared to throw a punch at Navarro before being held back by a roadie and the band’s bassist Eric Avery. Avery and the road crew managed to restrain Farrell and get him offstage.
After Farrell was removed, the rest of Jane’s Addiction, including drummer Stephen Perkins who was celebrating his 57th birthday, came forward to thank the crowd. Navarro threw a pick into the crowd before leaving the stage.
Several people in the audience posted videos of the incident after the show ended in chaos. This outburst came after some ‘off’ moments in other cities that people have already talked about online.
At the first of the two concerts earlier this week in New York City, Farrell told the audience he wasn’t feeling great vocally. “Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice. I just can’t get the notes out all of a sudden,” Farrell said. The next day, Avery posted to Instagram, “Looking forward to getting another crack at this spectacular rooftop venue tonight. I’m optimistic we will be better.”
Now both of these incidents has fans wondering if the rest of the band’s reunion tour, their first in 14 years, will go on as planned.
