In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Jerry Horton talked about the important advice Korn’s Fieldy shared with them.
“Fieldy said, ‘Look man, how this is happening for you guys is not normal,’” the guitarist recalled. “‘You’re going to think that it’s going to always be this way, but it’s not.’”
He continued, “That was kind of a wake-up call. It wasn’t until the end of that cycle where we were able to take stock of everything that happened. I think it messed with our heads because we were so far into it that we didn’t even realise what was happening until after.”
Horton and Jacoby Shaddix previously shared their memories of touring with Korn after the 2000 Warped Tour in a chat with Q101. “I would say the Korn tour,” Horton explained. “‘Cause we were young. We did Warped Tour in 2000, and then right after that we did Korn.”
He added, “And they us under their wing. They were, like, ‘Grasshopper, we’ll show you how to do it.’ And they treated us great, and they set the bar for how we treated bands when we took them out.”
“They were just, like, ‘Turn up as loud as you want. You can use the stage however you want. Just get up there and throw down.’ And like some bands aren’t like that. They wanna squash your sound. They wanna, ‘Oh, you can’t use this part of the stage,’” Shaddix also noted about Korn.
Shaddix also praised Korn last year, saying, “We’re watching Metallica step into that Rolling Stones spot right now. And Foo Fighters are another one of those groups. And Korn, Papa Roach [and] Deftones, we’re like the next Metallicas.”
“You know what I mean? That’s it. We’re stepping into that spot now. It just comes to, I guess, being able to survive the treachery of this rock and roll life. And if you can do that and still continue to create good art and good music, then we can get into that space,” he also shared.
Papa Roach will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album ‘Infest’ with the ‘Rise of the Roach’ tour next year. They’ll be joined by Rise Against and Underoath.
