The trailer for Pamela Anderson’s new film, The Last Showgirl, has finally been released, and the awards buzz is already starting. Directed by Gia Coppola, The Last Showgirl follows Shelley (Anderson), a showgirl who is faced with an uncertain future when she learns that the Vegas show she’s been performing in for over 30 years is set to close.
Joining Anderson is an impressive cast that includes Billie Lourd (Scream Queens), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Brenda Song (Dollface), and Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).
Village Roadshow has released the first trailer for The Last Showgirl (see below), which features highlights from the extremely positive reviews Pamela Anderson has received for the film since it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024, with The Hollywood Reporter calling it “A transformative performance,” and The AU Review saying, “Pamela Anderson is an actress reborn.” The trailer also features a sample of Miley Cyrus’ “Beautiful That Way”, a song co-written for the film by Cyrus, Andrew Wyatt, and Lykke Li.
The Last Showgirl is set for a limited release on December 13, 2024, allowing it a qualifying run for the 97th Academy Awards. The movie will open in wide release on January 10, 2025, likely hoping to potentially break out after the holiday movies have come and gone, and before the Oscar nominations are announced. The Last Showgirl currently has an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 52 reviews, with nearly all the reviews praising Pamela Anderson’s career-redefining performance.
Pamela Anderson Could Earn Her First Oscar Nom for ‘The Last Showgirl’
Pamela Anderson’s performance in The Last Showgirl has put her in the conversation for the Best Actress race, but it is heating up quickly. Mikey Madison has received rave reviews for her performance in Anora, while Nicole Kidman has been generating a lot of buzz for her performance in the upcoming Babygirl. Karla Sofía Gascón in Emilia Pérez, Demi Moore in The Substance, and Cynthia Erivo in Wicked have also drawn attention in the Best Actress race. The Last Showgirl does have the potential to nab a Best Original Song nomination for “Beautiful That Way,” as co-writer Andrew Wyatt previously won Best Original Song for “Shallows” from A Star is Born.
