The long-awaited second season of the live-action One Piece has just received significant details regarding its filming schedule and release date. The Netflix series is based on a popular manga by Eiichiro Oda, which was also adapted into an anime in 1999, with over 1100 episodes to date. The live-action adaptation originally premiered in August 2023 and surprised fans with its pitch-perfect casting and an extremely well-crafted screenplay that is no less entertaining and thrilling compared to both the anime and manga. The cast includes Inaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Vincent Regan as Garp.
Now. in a recent interview with Deadline, Tomorrow Studios President Becky Clements has shared updates on the second season of One Piece, including the production schedule, casting rumors, and when audiences might see the return of the hit show. She said:
“July and August are the tougher months, and we adjusted our schedule so that the majority of our exterior stuff would shoot closer to the end of the year, summer. This is a very VFX heavy year so it’s going to be a while. We are a long time out. We film into December.”

It seems that the filming for One Piece season 2 will not be wrapped up until the end of this year, and that only makes matters worse considering how VFX-dependant the series has been. The first season took roughly twenty months from production to premiere (January 2022 to August 2023), so if everything goes as planned, the second season of One Piece will be released in the fall of 2025. Since Clements has stated that they have several VFX projects to prioritize this year, delays are not out of the question, and the release date of One Piece season 2 might be pushed back to mid-2026.

Given the show’s success, it’s no surprise that Netflix has renewed One Piece for another season. Here are ten things we want to see in Season 2.
While this might feel like disappointing news for One Piece live-action fans who have been looking forward to the sequel, here’s another shocker. Jamie Lee Curtis has long been discussed as the ideal casting choice for Dr. Kureha, who debuts in the Drum Island Arc. However, it has been confirmed that she will not be cast in the role due to scheduling conflicts. In Clements’ words,
“She [Jamie Lee Curtis] has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on, so our production dates aren’t going to work. She definitely wanted to do it, but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated. We have found an amazing person.”
What To Expect From One Piece Season 2
The first season of One Piece adapted the East Blue Saga, which consists of Romance Dawn, Orange Town, Syrup Village, Baratie, Arlong Park, and Loguetown arcs. However, the last arc of the saga has been left out for the second season, in which Smoker, an infamous Marine, appears, as foreshadowed in the previous season’s post-credits scene.
Since it is also a short arc, it will likely be adapted into a single episode. In turn, the season will also include the eagerly anticipated Arabasta Saga. This saga will include the Reverse Mountain, Whisky Peak, Little Garden, Drum Island, and Arabasta arcs. In addition to introducing a new Straw Hats crew member, the season is also expected to set up other major characters, including Crocodile and Nico Robin. Overall, it should be just as entertaining as the previous season, if not more so, assuming everything is as well-adapted.
