Tom Holland is reportedly in talks to join Christopher Nolan’s new “event” movie, which is another IMAX-targeted blockbuster that will hit cinemas on July 17, 2026. Nolan is coming off the back of his Oscar-winning success with Oppenheimer, and while there are currently no details available of what his next movie is about, there is already a lot of anticipation building about it. Deadline have now added to that hype with a report that Spider-Man star Holland is set to join the cast of what will be Nolan’s 13th movie.
Nolan is known for delivering movies that rely on intricate storytelling, practical effects, and don’t always conform to the type of film that is expected to make $1 billion at the box office these days. However, Nolan has proven time and time again that he has the ability to drive audiences into cinemas for the one-of-a-kind experience they cannot get by waiting for his movies to arrive on streaming. Oppenheimer almost joined the $1 billion club, and while it is still unclear how much the whole “Barbenheimer” trend played in boosting the film’s box office, there is little doubt that Nolan’s next movie will be able to perform without a blonde icon giving him a leg up.
For Holland, this potential collaboration will be another feather in his cap after a busy few years. From his Marvel return in Spider-Man: No Way Home to the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room, Holland has been proving his acting skills on many levels. Having seen his former Marvel costar Robert Downey Jr. take home an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, Holland’s versatile abilities could see him follow in his former mentor’s footsteps in a couple of years’ time.
Christopher Nolan’s Mysterious New Movie
While little is known about the plot of Nolan’s new movie, it is not easy to make any kind of speculation about what the subject could focus on. While some directors are happy sticking to one genre, Nolan is not one of those filmmakers. He has dabbled in comic book movies with The Dark Knight trilogy, sci-fi in Inception, as well as war epics with Dunkirk. The director has even expressed an interest in making a horror movie. There have, however, been suggestions that Nolan’s movie will be his take on a James Bond-style espionage movie. Whatever the truth, Nolan has already started assembling a competent set of actors to star in it.

While no two Nolan movies look or feel the same, parallels like musical scores to deceptive storytelling make each of his works more Nolan-esque.
Previous reports have suggested that Matt Damon is already on Nolan’s radar to follow up their Oppenheimer collaboration, but other than that and Holland’s potential inclusion, there are no other names currently on the cards. With the film’s release almost two years away, the casting process will be ramped up soon, as filming is likely to get underway early next year. There is also Holland’s upcoming return as Peter Parker in his next Marvel outing to think about, as schedules will have to be worked out so there is no clash between Nolan’s movie and either Avengers: Doomsday – which Holland is almost certain to feature in – or Spider-Man 4.
