During Bring Me the Horizon’s show in Germany on June 23, Oli Sykes refused to play their hit song, ‘Medicine.’
In a video posted on X, the singer is seen kneeling on the ground, checking the night’s setlist. He told the crowd:
“All right, what we’re gonna do… what would you like to hear?”
Sykes heard a fan shout out the pop-influenced track ‘Medicine’ from the album ‘amo.’ He reacted by saying:
“‘Medicine’? Are you guys all right? You guys would like to hear ‘Medicine’? Even I think that song is sh*t.”
He mentions ‘Pray for Plagues,’ ‘Chelsea Smile,’ and ‘Don’t Look Dow’ before the video ends. ‘Medicine’ came out on January 3, 2019, as the third single from Bring Me the Horizon’s album ‘amo.’ It’s the second most streamed song from the album on Spotify, with over 100 million plays, and the music video has nearly 30 million views on YouTube.
What Is ‘Medicine’ About?
The song reflects Sykes’ past relationship with Hannah Snowdon, which ended in a difficult divorce in early 2016. Both Sykes and keyboardist Jordan Fish previously confirmed that ‘Medicine’ is connected to this personal experience. Here is what Fish told Kerrang! in a 2018 interview:
“It’s about people who are negative influences and how when they leave your life things get much better. It’s a mixture of the electronic and radio-friendly elements of our band, but it’s still got characteristics of some of the bigger songs we’ve done before. You’d need to ask Oli who exactly that’s about, but I can think of a few people it might be about…”
Bring Me the Horizon is currently on the road for their European tour. They will perform in Spain on June 27. Later, they will also visit Finland, Sweden, France, Italy, Romania, Greece and Bulgaria.
