Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes sat down with NME to talk about their new album and the possibility of a documentary.
During the chat, the frontman discussed the progress of the new album and what happened after Jordan Fish left the band. Sykes said the two parties split due to creative differences. That’s when he was asked about a possible BMTH movie and that if Fish’s departure would be a very short scene. Sykes replied:
“There’s not gonna be any scene! We’ll never do one of them. Our story is a very slow, long climb to the top. No one died. Every time someone’s like, ‘Do you want to do a documentary, I’m like, ‘F*ck no!’”
He also mentioned the story and the documentaries of Foo Fighters and said he didn’t find docs necessary even with a ‘crazy story’:
“Look at a band like Foo Fighters – they’ve had the most insane story ever, and I still don’t want to watch that documentary. No offense. I just don’t care. [Dave Grohl] has been through so much, lost so many people, and I still don’t wanna watch it. So why would you wanna watch a Bring Me The Horizon one?”
He then explained why a BMTH documentary wouldn’t be as interesting as Foo Fighters’:
“It’s just us being a slow reach to being a big band. Now particularly exciting has ever happened. ‘Oh yeah, he was addicted to drugs’, whatever. Who wasn’t in a rock band? It’s the same with Jordan: there’s not there, not exciting. We just got to a point where we weren’t happy as a unit anymore.”
Sykes Is Open To Work With Jordan Fish Again
The band’s newest album ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ was written and recorded after Jordan Fish left the band at the end of last year. Since he was both a producer and a musician during his time with the band, his departure raised questions about how BMTH would continue.
A few days ago, Sykes opened up about the departure of his bandmate and said he hadn’t heard from him ever since the album came out. However, he said he’s open to working with Fish again:
“I’m not gonna lie and say, ‘Oh, it ended amicably. It’s just like when you break up with someone — it never ends as good. I don’t rule it out, us talking or working together in the future or anything. I can’t speak for him, but from my side, there’s no animosity.”
