Noel Gallagher recently appeared in an interview with Mojo and said he believes Oasis’ ‘Definitely Maybe’ was the final standout punk album.
While discussing Oasis’ debut album, the singer noted:
“‘Definitely Maybe’ was the last great punk album in many respects. We were a punk band with Beatles melodies. We had no effects, barely any equipment, just loads of attitude, 12 cans of Red Stripe, and ambition. If you listen to that and ‘Never Mind The Bollocks,’ they’re quite similar. That album was about the angst of being a teenager in 1977.”
Noel Thinks ‘Definitely Maybe’ Is An Honest Album
He continued, detailing why ‘Definitely Maybe’ was such an important record:
“Fast forward to 1994, and ‘Definitely Maybe’ is about the glory of being a teenager. It’s being down the park with a ghetto blaster distilled. It’s no coincidence that it’s lasted this long. Maybe there have been technically better or bigger records since, but that album is the real f*cking deal. There’s no bullsh*t on it. It’s an honest snapshot of working-class lads trying to make it. It’s about shagging birds, taking drugs, drinking, and the glory of all of that.”
Noel Doesn’t Want To Join Liam On Upcoming Tour
This summer, Noel’s brother from Oasis, Liam Gallagher, will go on a tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Definitely Maybe,’ but Noel is not planning to join him. Earlier, Liam said he asked his brother if he’d perform with him on the tour, but he said no. Later, in November 2023, Liam replied to a fan about the tour and if it would end speculation about Oasis reuniting. He said:
“I’m not sure how his rite said works these days. All I know is I’m here, I’m gonna be there, and if all goes well, I’ll be f*cking everywhere.”
More recently, in February, Liam also revealed that Noel didn’t accept to join the tour, although he was offered a lot of money. Liam told Mojo:
“I did call him! Well, my people called Noel’s management team. We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing – because we got offered it – and he said no. It was a big tour and a lot of money. He turned it down. I get it; he’s got a divorce going down. I’ll do the Definitely Maybe thing and have a nice time without him.”
Liam’s 30th-anniversary tour starts on June 2 in Sheffield and ends on June 27, just before Glastonbury begins. Oasis’ co-founder Bonehead will probably join Gallagher on stage. He’s back on tour with him after battling tonsil cancer earlier this year.
