Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx sat down with Riffx and talked about the only option to replace their former guitarist Mick Mars.
The bassist recalled the day they hired John 5 as their new guitarist after Mars’ departure. Apparently, John looked like the best fit for the band:
“Mick was gonna leave. It just seemed like a natural fit. Talked to the guys in the band, we never talked about anybody else, never auditioned anybody. We just wanted a good fit. We knew John was a good fit, his playing is phenomenal. That’s where we’re at now. Obviously we did some new songs too.”
John 5 Inspired Mötley To Write New Music
Tommy Lee believes that John 5 joining Mötley Crüe inspired them to create new music.
In a recent conversation with Japanese music critic and radio host Masa Ito from TVK’s Rock City, the drummer explained why he and his bandmates needed to create fresh tracks, such as one of their latest singles ‘Dogs of War’:
“Going to record was, yes, it was really important to us because during that [early 2023] tour, we felt all this new energy. Having [new guitarist] John 5 in the band really, really inspired us to share with our fans what we’re feeling. This new energy is like a rebirth in many ways, and so we started writing some music — myself, Nikki and John — and we were, like, ‘Well, let’s get [Crüe’s longtime producer] Bob Rock. Let’s go in and let’s put this on tape and record it.’”
