The incident seemingly also forced the rapper to postpone her show in Manchester, England at the last minute.
Nicki Minaj‘s concert in Amsterdam has been canceled, its promoter said on Friday, after the rapper was reportedly detained last week at the city’s airport for “possession of soft drugs”.
Dutch police had told NBC News that they “arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport,” but the woman wasn’t named. “After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was fined and can continue her journey,” the statement continued.
The incident seemingly forced Minaj to postpone her show in Manchester, England at the last minute on Saturday night. Now, her gig on Sunday, June 2, at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam has been axed. The BBC said the star was fined 350 euros ($380) for the crime.
The music superstar, currently on her “Pink Friday 2” world tour, documented her encounters with officials on Saturday on social media, including an Instagram Live captured by a number of outlets and fans, on which an official is heard saying they wanted to take Minaj into custody for “carrying drugs,” which she denied. “I’m not going in there. I need a lawyer present,” Minaj said from behind the camera.
She and the official later said she was “under arrest” as she wondered what for, but the official just asked her to stop filming.
Minaj later said on a live-streaming platform: “Not being able to get to Manchester, I don’t know when was the last time I felt that low, you know? And not only that, but just knowing that something is being done to you on purpose. You are a confident other race, you know?”
Added Minaj: “But I’m not going to get into it and tell you guys the joy they took in it, even while I was there. But you know what? There was one lady there – all the rest were men – and I could tell she had a heart. But the treatment was just disgusting. And I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”
