The next James Bond film may not have an actor attached nor a script written, but a new report claims that the Oscar-winning director of 12 Years a Slave, Steve McQueen, is in talks to helm 007. As rampant speculation emerges on who might be the next version of the spy most recently played by Daniel Craig, it seems the James Bond reboot is also facing an uphill battle behind the scenes. Still, Amazon MGM Studios and company are hard at work developing the next iteration of 007, starting with a potential director.
Although they are not extremely trustworthy, The Sun reports that Steve McQueen is in line to direct the next James Bond film. The English filmmaker seems to be the right fit for the job, after tackling several acclaimed and award-winning projects, including the crime drama Widows and the miniseries Small Axe from Amazon. Due to his previous relationship with the studio, it is certainly possible if not likely that McQueen is being courted for the coveted job. Of course, until any confirmation, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt.
In other news, it seems the creative process behind Bond 26 is facing a few hurdles early on in development. Per Mirror, the next 007 film still has no actor in sight for the leading role, nor is there a script written for the project. This means fans will have to wait considerably longer since No Time to Die hit theaters in 2021. Apparently, what is complicating things is longtime executive producer Barbara Broccoli busy with a Sing Street musical in 2025. Once again, this should be considered another rumor not to be taken as fact, but the contextual clues tell us fans will have to wait a while to hear who plays 007.
Who Could Play the Next James Bond?
It may seem that Bond 26 is struggling to find the next face of the franchise, but that hasn’t stopped possible names from surfacing online. Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has long been rumored to be favored to wear the suit and tie, while former Superman Henry Cavill also made the rounds as a top potential prospect. Most recently, another name has made the online rumor mill, and he’s a real gentleman. Theo James (The Gentlemen, The White Lotus) may be on TheShockNews of names considered for the role. Of course, even though these are big-name actors with familiar faces, there remains the possibility that James Bond could be played by a relative unknown next time around.
