Sepultura fans seem to be very satisfied with the new drummer Greyson Nekrutman.
Nekrutman recently shared a drum cam video on his Instagram account from a live show. In the comments, some fans said he was a better drummer then the former, now the Slipknot drummer, Eloy Casagrande.
Some commenters mentioned Casagrande and said Nekrutman had more balance than him:
“Perfect, better drummer than previous one. More feeling, more groove right balanced.”
Another added saying that they wouldn’t be surprised if Slipknot hired him as their next drummer:
“You are the right choice. You have this band on your resume then your set. I will laugh if Slipknot hires you after Eloy.”
Another added:
“You’re definitely the right drummer for the band. Awesome drumming great chops.”
Eloy Casagrande’s Decision To Leave Sepultura
Eloy Casagrande joined Sepultura in 2011 and recorded three albums with them before leaving in February 2024. A few months later, Slipknot confirmed him as their new drummer.
In an interview in May, the drummer explained his decision to leave Sepultura to join Slipknot and how it all happened:
“I received the invitation to audition [for Slipknot] after the [Sepultura farewell] tour was announced. The big thing, the reason I agreed to audition, was the end of Sepultura. The band was going to break up, and I didn’t want to stop playing drums at the age of 33.”
Casagrande initially wanted to switch between band to band, but Slipknot said he needed to be ‘exclusive.’ As a result, he left Sepultura. He added:
“I had a chat with Slipknot, asked about their schedule and if it would be possible to juggle the two bands, but they said no, it wouldn’t be possible, I’d be exclusive. So it was my decision to leave Sepultura. It was complicated. I told [Sepultura my decision] when I had closed the deal [with Slipknot] on February 5th or 6th. That very day I called a meeting and explained the situation. That was it, an individual decision.”
The news came just two months after the band announced their plans to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2024 with a global farewell tour.
Nekrutman’s Inclusion In Sepultura
Nekrutman joined the band after Casagrande’s sudden exit.
On February 27, the band took to social media to announce the former drummer’s exit and Nekrutman’s inclusion in the band. The drummer shared his excitement in the statement with the following:
“To contribute to this legacy is a privilege that fills me with both honor and excitement. Sepultura’s fearless approach to exploring new territories in the metal sphere is something that I have always admired and strived to emulate in my own musical endeavors.”
Sepultura kicked off their farewell tour on March 1 at Arena Hall in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where Nekrutman made his debut with the band. The ‘Celebrating Life Through Death’ tour dates confirmed so far include shows in South America and Europe. More concerts are to be announced soon.
