Outer Banks may have more stories wash upon its shores — at least if the series’ co-creators/executive producers have a say in it. The popular Netflix YA series may have one more season left before its series finale arrives, but that hasn’t stopped Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke from teasing out their hopes and dreams for future stories featuring the Pogues and Kooks.
In exclusive reporting from Deadline, the trio of creators mentioned their desire to tell “fother stories in this universe down the line,” in a move that feels inevitable and sensible both for the streamer and the series’ creators.
When Is Outer Banks Ending And Has Netflix Greenlit Any Spinoffs?
“According to sources, no projects are currently in the works, but it is logical for Netflix to attempt to extend one of its top series,” the new report explained. And Netflix has already shown their desire for more from this world, given their investment in other Outer Banks projects, like a recently released mobile game called Stories: Outer Banks, various licensing deals for OBX merchandise from stores and brands like PacSun, Lottie London, and Byrd. The streamer even has an annual live event they put on in relation to the show, The Poguelandia fan music fest.
For those who are not in the know, Outer Banks tells the story of the conflict between two groups of teenagers living their lives and searching for a lost treasure in their local community — the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The series has been a solid and reliable hit for Netflix, with the show consistently landing itself on the streamer’s top 10 list of most-watched programs. Outer Banks has actually spent a total of 28 weeks on the global top 10 English TV list, with more weeks likely to come, given the series’ recently released fourth season. It is also one of the most popular shows on social media, particularly among young people.
